Robert (Rob) J. Bonack retired at the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7) from the USAF after 22 years of service, with 10.5 years on Active Duty and 11.5 years in the Air National Guard. He was born at Andrews AFB, MD on 6 May 1971, and graduated from Ashwaubenon High School, Ashwaubenon, WI in 1989 and immediately entered the USAF. His first duty assignment was as an Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist with the 6949th Electronic Security Squadron, Offutt, AFB, NE supporting RC-135 Rivet Joint (RJ) reconnaissance aircraft. During this assignment he deployed to Riyadh Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as one of two technicians who made up the first USAF maintenance team responsible for Tactical information Broadcast Service (TIBS) terminals located at remote sites throughout Southwest Asia (SWA). During his second assignment to the 488th Intelligence Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom he was handpicked to assist contractors in an extensive modification of large data processing systems, associated with the RC-135 RJ, at both RAF Mildenhall and Riyadh Air Base, Saudi Arabia. During a third deployment to SWA he relocated and performed operational checks of a Condor Claw Enhanced Tactical Information Broadcast Service system for the U.S. Navy in Bahrain; restoring vital secure communications to a Regional U.S. Naval headquarters immediately prior to an Iraqi violation of the United Nations no-fly-zone. His third and final Active Duty assignment was to the 36th Engineering and Test Squadron, Eglin AFB, FL where he served as a mission data specialist, assisting in developing, generating, verifying, and validating mission data updates in response to enemy threat system parametric changes in regards to ALR-69 radar warning receivers installed on F-16 fighter aircraft. He served as a ground safety technician in the Illinois Air National Guard, 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, IL. He assisted in the management of the ground safety program which included operational, occupational, contractual, and traffic safety for 1,200 assigned personnel. During this assignment he also served as a Safety Technician supporting the 264thCombat Communications Squadron. His final assignment was with the Michigan Air National Guard as a member of the 110thAttack Wing, 217th Air Operations Group, Battle Creek, MI. During this assignment he served as an Interface Control Watch Officer deploying to Ramstein Air Base in support of Operation JUNIPER MICRON. He joined Freedom VFW Post 7692 in October, 2015 and began serving as Post Senior Vice Commander in July of 2016.
